Here’s how our doctors can help you

Direct access to doctors

We created Maple to remove as many barriers as possible that stand in the way of seeing a doctor when you need one.

That's why we provide the fastest real-time online connection to a doctor in Canada. Maple directly sends your request to our network of physicians in real-time, so they can review and respond to you quickly.

Canada’s largest network of healthcare providers

Maple offers care from over 1500 providers, including doctors and specialists, available by appointment or on-demand, any time of day.

Because of this, patients can feel secure knowing they’ll be able to see the healthcare provider they need, whenever they need to, and fast.

Available to all Canadians

With Maple, all Canadians can access a healthcare provider any time of day, whether it’s a one-time visit, a subscription, or through an employee benefits plan.

Maple breaks down barriers to accessibility by making it easy for everyone to speak to a healthcare provider.

Medical notes

Doctors can provide sick notes for school or work for short absences, so you can focus on resting instead of sitting in a waiting room.

They can also provide notes for therapist treatments, like a note for a chiropractor or registered massage therapist.

Learn more about Akira

Fewer physicians

Most of Akira’s healthcare providers are registered nurses and nurse practitioners who can help if you need further support.

While nurse practitioners and other providers can provide accurate diagnoses, mental health support, and prescriptions, some allowances around prescriptions and lab requisitions may be limited, requiring a physician to sign off, depending on the province.

Comparatively less specialists

Akira offers access to a limited number of specialists including psychiatrists and dermatologists.

While you can get a referral for a specialist if needed, you may not be able to speak to the type of provider you need as quickly as you would like. Maple offers over 25 specialties to choose from, with low wait times. See all specialties here.

Must be part of an employee benefits plan

Akira is available to employees as part of their employee benefits plan, and to their immediate family members.

Not everyone has access to Akira’s healthcare providers.

No doctor’s notes

Akira doesn’t offer the option of receiving a medical note from any of its healthcare providers.

If you’re feeling unwell and need a sick note fast for school or work, you won’t be able to get one on Akira.

A fantastic way to get medical advice when you are unable to see someone in person. The app is so simple to use. Highly recommend. I am not a tech savvy person but the doctor was kind enough to patiently walk me through every step of the process. Thank you.

Super impressed with this service. Without a family doctor, it’s easy to feel alone with no care. Very thankful to have options.

So fast and efficient. A process that would have ordinarily involved a referral and a six months wait was completed in less than 72 hours. Wholeheartedly recommend Maple.
