How do you use citalopram?
Citalopram is typically taken by mouth, either as a tablet or a liquid, once a day with or without food as directed by a doctor. Your doctor may have you start on a low dose and gradually increase it in order to avoid side effects.

Citalopram can cause QT prolongation and should not be used if you have medical conditions or take drugs that cause QT prolongation, or if you have a history of heart problems.

Citalopram does expire. Always follow expiry dates listed on the prescription bottle or the pharmacy label to determine if the medication is still effective. If there is no expiry listed, the FDA considers citalopram expired one year from the date it is dispensed.
