A message from our founder and CEO
As an ER doctor, I saw every day how hard it was for patients to get timely care, and how frustrating it was for practitioners to offer more care in a system that makes it difficult to do your best work. I knew we could build something better.
That’s why we built Maple. We wanted to give healthcare practitioners a better way to practice, one that is flexible, removes administrative burden, allows you to earn more during previously unusable downtime, and lets you focus on what matters most: helping patients.
When you join Maple, you are joining a community working to make healthcare better for both patients and providers, setting a new standard for modern, sustainable care in Canada.
– Dr. Brett Belchetz, ER Doctor & Maple CEO

Frequently asked questions
The majority of patients coming to Maple are looking for on-demand primary care. Here’s how it works if you’re a primary care provider practicing on Maple:
(1) Log in to your account (desktop or mobile app)
You can choose to log on and start seeing patients whenever you wish, fitting your work on Maple flexibly into your schedule. On your home screen, you’ll be able to see how many patients are currently waiting in the queue to speak with a healthcare provider.
(2) Review consultation requests
Prior to accepting a consultation, you’ll be presented with a “triage screen” where you can review details about the patient’s presenting complaint and determine next steps.
(3) Consult with the patient
Once you accept a patient’s request, you’ll be able to communicate together in the Maple app via secure messaging, audio, or video. Everything you need is built into our virtual consultation room including features to create charting notes, enter a diagnosis, issue a prescription or medical note. You may also order lab tests and specialist referrals depending on the patient’s eligibility.
Are you a specialty care provider? We enable patient access to multiple specialists and allied-health professionals. Get in touch with us to learn more about your opportunities with Maple.
Thousands of patients use Maple every day. The specific number of patient requests available to you on a daily basis depends on various factors, including the number of provinces and programs you support, the time of day, and the number of other Maple providers online at any given moment.
It’s up to you to determine how much time you need to spend with a given patient. On average the majority of consultations take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete.
It depends, based on your license(s). Our platform automatically ensures your queue is populated with patients you are eligible to treat based on where the patient is located, your licensing and insurance coverage information.
You may, depending on your licensing and insurance coverage. Maple has supplemental insurance coverage that offers malpractice protection while you are temporarily outside of Canada (for 30 days or less). If you plan to work on Maple from outside of Canada for longer periods of time, please speak to a member of our Provider Team.
No. When you join Maple, the amount of time you dedicate and when you work is fully up to you. We only ask that you complete a minimum of 10 consultations within your first two weeks on the platform so that you can get familiar with using Maple after you complete your onboarding process.
Over secure messaging, audio, or video, all of which can be done securely on Maple.
Yes, subject to the patient’s account coverage. Once a requisition or referral is issued, our care delivery operations team will assist with administrative work, including notifying patients of their results.
When you are reviewing a patient’s request, you can quickly and easily triage it as an emergency to prompt the patient to proceed directly to the ER or to call 911.
As an independent healthcare provider, the way in which you practice on Maple is fully up to you. If you're unable to treat a patient virtually due to the need for an in-person assessment, there are options available to help you manage and triage the case appropriately.
Maple does not integrate or utilize any external EMR systems. All patient care and documentation are completed directly within Maple’s secure, proprietary platform. Our platform functions similarly to an EMR — you can review patient intake information, document notes, issue prescriptions, requisitions, and referrals, and manage follow-up tasks, all within Maple.
Maple serves as a secure technology platform that stores and manages records on your behalf and the patient’s behalf, but does not assume custodianship of those records. As the healthcare provider, you are the healthcare information custodian of patient records.
Since Maple operates as a technology platform — not a healthcare provider or institution — the role of a Medical Director is not applicable. Although Maple is not a healthcare party to the provider-patient relationship and cannot intervene in clinical care, we take all feedback about care seriously.
To support our network of providers, we have a dedicated Medical Affairs function, responsible for ensuring best practices related to recruiting and retaining top-quality providers, providing ongoing coaching and support, reviewing care-related feedback and complaints, and working directly with providers to address concerns.
You are required to have your own professional liability insurance (e.g., CMPA for physicians or CNPS for nurse practitioners) to practice on Maple. While you may purchase additional coverage, CMPA/CNPS coverage is the only requirement for practicing on Maple.
In addition to primary coverage through CMPA/CNPS, Maple has a supplementary insurance plan in place. This plan acts as a backup in scenarios where your primary coverage does not apply, such as when a patient or a provider are temporarily travelling. While Maple provides this supplementary layer, it does not replace the requirement for primary malpractice coverage.
You will be paid a standard rate per consultation, with monthly earnings varying based on the number of consultations completed.
All payments are issued monthly, covering consultations completed in the previous calendar month. As part of onboarding, we collect your direct deposit information to ensure timely and automatic payments.
When you join Maple, you’ll enter into an independent contractor agreement, not an employment relationship. This means you have the flexibility to set your own schedule and choose how and when you practice on the platform.
If you have any questions about the contract during onboarding, our team is here to support you and provide clear answers every step of the way.
Yes.
Your fee-per-consultation is net of platform fees due to Maple. There are no additional overhead charges when you work on Maple.
