Maple vs. Ask The Doctor

With Maple you can instantly connect with Canadian-licensed doctors for medical care from your phone, tablet, or computer, 24/7 or by appointment.

Ask the Doctor is an email Q&A service where for a fee, you can ask a doctor a question and wait for a reply.

Here’s how our doctors can help you

24/7 access to doctors

Maple connects you with a Canadian-licensed healthcare providers so you can get care whenever you need it.

Employer / insurance coverage is available, otherwise visits start at $49, as many of our services aren’t covered under provincial health plans due to our use of secure messaging, nurse practitioners, and a national doctor network. We also offer specialists in several provinces such as dermatologists, endocrinologists, pediatricians, and more. Our doctors, nurse practitioners, and healthcare providers are well respected, Canadian-licensed family or emergency medicine practitioners passionate about delivering outstanding healthcare and can treat many common medical issues including sore throat, sprains and minor injuries, erectile dysfunction, and more.

Prescriptions

Doctors can give you a prescription at their discretion based on your consultation that can also be delivered to you.

Prescriptions on Maple are easy to receive — we send them to the pharmacy of your choice for fulfillment, and can even have them delivered right to your door in most cases, at no additional cost to you.

Medical notes

Doctors can provide sick notes for school or work for short absences so you can skip the waiting room and focus on resting instead.

They can also provide notes for therapist treatments, like a note for a chiropractor or registered massage therapist.

Portable medical records

With Maple, you can easily store and manage your medical records, and have peace of mind knowing they’ll be there when you need them.

With each consultation, we’ll update your profile to include all of your latest diagnoses, prescriptions, and medical conditions.

Not a live doctor’s visit

Ask the Doctor allows you to get a doctor’s response to a medical question via email. You can visit their website and ask a question, and one of their doctors will reply via email for a fee of $18.

Doctors cannot provide a diagnosis or medical treatment via Ask the Doctor.

No prescriptions

Doctors can answer questions about medication on Ask the Doctor, but they cannot give you a prescription.

Only licensed, medical physicians in Canada can prescribe you medications as part of a medical visit.

No medical notes

If a medical note is what you’re looking for, you’ll need to speak to a Canadian-licensed physician who can assess you and provide a note as necessary.

You can only get a sick note by having a medical consultation with a doctor or nurse practitioner — whether it’s in person or via a telemedicine service like Maple.

Not a health record-keeping solution

If you need a convenient way to access and store your own personal medical records, Ask the Doctor does not provide this feature.

There are currently only a few providers in Canada that let you securely access and store your private health information — Maple is one of them.
