Can I talk to a doctor on Maple about my sleep apnea?

Yes. In some cases, a doctor on Maple can help you manage a previously diagnosed case of sleep apnea. They’ll be able to provide advice and recommend an appropriate course of treatment. If the doctor suspects you have a more serious problem, they may suggest for you to go to a clinic for a thorough physical examination.

Can I get a prescription on Maple?

Yes, our physicians can prescribe medications online during your consultation. Once you accept a prescription, you’ll have the option to pick it up from any pharmacy or to have it delivered right to your door at no additional cost.

You can visit our How it Works page to learn more.

What is sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that can have serious complications. Sleep apnea causes breathing to stop and start throughout the night. There are three types of sleep apnea: obstructive (when throat muscles relax); central (when your brain doesn’t send the right signals to your muscles); and complex (which is when you have both obstructive and central sleep apnea).

What are the symptoms of sleep apnea?

Symptoms of sleep apnea include:

  • Loud snoring
  • Episodes in which you stop breathing while asleep (usually observed by another person)
  • Gasping for air during sleep
  • Dry mouth upon waking
  • Morning headache
  • Difficulty staying asleep
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness
  • Difficulty paying attention
  • Irritability
How can I treat sleep apnea?

Mild sleep apnea is often treated with lifestyle changes, such as losing weight or quitting smoking. If your sleep apnea is related to allergies, you may need to get treatment for allergies to help your sleep apnea. More severe cases are usually treated with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or other airway pressure devices or oral appliances. Surgery is used as a last resort, if all other treatment options have failed.
