Frequently Asked Questions

Which testing option is right for me?

We offer two different types of COVID-19 testing kits with different applications.

The PCR test takes longer to process (48 hours) as it needs to be performed at a lab, and can be more costly. As a result, this one is recommended only if required for travel or another type of certification.

The rapid antigen test is the most commonly used test as it can be performed at home in around 15 minutes and doesn’t require supervision. It’s often used before, or after, attending social events, going into work, or school. It is also the least costly option.

Which COVID-19 test do I need if I travel abroad?

COVID-19 testing requirements change over time and vary by country.

Airlines may require a COVID-19 rapid antigen or PCR test for travel. Please check travel requirements with your airline and destination.

How long does it take to get my results?

Results vary depending on the COVID-19 test being administered.

  • PCR tests: Results within 48-hours
  • Rapid antigen tests: Results in 20 minutes
Can you travel without a COVID-19 test if you are vaccinated?

You should always refer to your local public health unit for the latest public health guidance but generally you need a COVID-19 test for travel, even if you are vaccinated.

What do I do if my test result is positive?

If you’ve tested positive, you can speak to your family doctor, or a doctor on Maple to review your results. You should also stay at home and isolate for at least five days to avoid spreading the virus to others, and check in on provincial guidelines as they may differ. Do call 911 if you experience serious COVID-19 symptoms like shortness of breath.
